NATIONAL Police Commissioner Bheki Cele yesterday vowed to prosecute officers who allegedly collude with farmers in abusing farm dwellers in parts of northern KwaZulu-Natal.
This comes after allegations that farmers, in collaboration with the police, had been victimising the poor dwellers in Vryheid, Paulpietersburg, Piet Retief and Pongola.
Cele said several meetings had been held over the issue but no amicable solution had been found.
"We are collecting information on allegations that the police at several stations are colluding with farmers to abuse workers," Cele said.
"We have set up an urgent meeting with all relevant stakeholders to find an amicable solution.
"This has been going on for a long time and it should come to an end.
"We will also meet all the leaders of the affected police stations over the allegations."
Cele said they would encourage victims to provide information relating to the alleged abuse. "We will revisit all the cases that were opened at the stations to find out why they have not been dealt with."
