Jersey honour for Fortuin

ON TUESDAY evening former Springbok fullback Bevin Fortuin presented the South African Under-18 team with their jerseys for the international friendly against Namibia in George.

Fortuin, who represented the Springboks in two internationals against Ireland and Australia, captains the SWD Eagles team in the Absa Currie Cup First Division.

"It's indeed an honour for me to present jerseys to our future Springboks players," Fortuin said.

"I never had the chance to represent an SA Under-18 team earlier in my career, but I was fortunate to be able to represent my country at international level.

"These players could play for South Africa one day and I am proud to be able to have the opportunity to hand them their green-and-gold jerseys for tomorrow's fixture.

"I played for the Springboks and nobody can take that away from me. I hope the players that are currently in the SA Rugby High Performance squad continue in rugby and one day become Springboks."

Lohan Jacobs, who will captain the SA Under-18 team against Namibia, said the squad appreciated Fortuin taking time out of his schedule to meet his team.

"We are extremely honoured to have a Springbok of the calibre of Bevin Fortuin to hand us our match-day jerseys," Jacobs said. "As players, we aspire to become Springboks and hope to one day follow his example and represent our country at the highest level." - Sapa
