AN Eastern Cape woman accused of killing herchildren, will have to wait before she can be sentenced for stealing thousands of rands from a furniture shop.
Wendy Manthe appeared in the East London magistrate's court on Monday where she was to be sentenced for stealing R51305 from her former employer, Brand Furnishers.
Magistrate Ignatius Kitching told Manthe that it would be appropriate for the court to sentence her after a decision by the East London high court.
"The other case you are facing is more serious than this one. It will be more appropriate for this court to wait for that sentence so that they can run concurrently," Kitching said.
Manthe, who was representing herself in this case, was unhappy with the magis-trate's decision. "I do not understand why I cannot be sentenced today," she said.
In June Manthe pleaded guilty to seven counts of theft for stealing from her previous employer, over three months from June to August last year.
It was this matter she said drove her to kill her two children as she feared she would go to jail and leave them without parents.
Manthe, 40, has pleaded guilty to killing seven-year-old Willow and nine-year-old Morgan in May this year. Police found Manthe near Kayser's Beach, East London, with the bodies of her children in the car with her.
She is due to appear in the East London high court on September 21 for killing the children and in the East London magistrate's court on September 22 for the theft case. - Sapa
