THE controversy surrounding Caster Semenya's gender test has outraged many people and President Jacob Zuma has taken an interest in the story.

Zuma is scheduled to meet Semenya at the presidential residence in Pretoria today.

ANC presidential spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said: "The president is absolutely outraged at the way Caster has been treated.

"For a long time now, the president has been talking about the empowerment of women and it's unfortunate that we have to deal with such stereotypes. Caster is a perfect example that women can perform better than men."

Kodwa also blamed the IAAF leadership for the way they handled the matter.

"We certainly feel that they owe her an apology. The poor woman was humiliated."
