THE South African team for the Davis Cup tie against India at the Ellis Park Indoor Arena from September 18 to 20 has been selected, but one of the players faces heartache as only four players are allowed to take part.
Jeff Coetzee, Wesley Moodie, Rik de Voest, Izak van der Merwe and Raven Klaasen have been selected in the squad to face the Indians and non-playing team captain John-Laffnie de Jager says everything is on track.
"All the guys are currently in America preparing for the US Open. The main draw for the US Open is on August 31 and depending on how well they perform there, we might be back in the country only after September 13," De Jager said.
He also shrugged off suggestions that things were not rosy between Moodie and Coetzee and said the bad publicity could affect their preparations.
"Wesley and Jeff have got no problem with each other, and they certainly have got no problem playing together.
"Both of them are committed to doing well for their country so the whole thing has been blown out of proportion as far as I'm concerned. This is not the kind of publicity we need going into the Davis Cup."
De Jager is excited about the exclusion of India's Prakash Amritraj.
