Bulls wing plays first match since Super 14

THE return of Blue Bulls wing Akona Ndungane should add value to the team when they take on the Leopards in an Absa Currie Cup game at Loftus tomorrow.

The Springbok flyer last featured in the Vodacom Super 14 Bulls squad in May when he picked up a serious injury during their assignment against New Zealand's Chiefs at home.

He has since recovered and this game will help him to get much-needed match fitness.

Coach Frans Ludeke, who believes in giving youngsters a run, has once again shown confidence in them by appointing the Emerging Boks captain, Dewald Potgieter, to lead the team for tomorrow's match.

He has also selected an entirely new front row that sees Frik Kirsten, Bandise Maku and Dean Greyling anchoring the scrum.

Flyhalf Burton Francis gets a chance to start in the place of Francois Brummer while flanker Potgieter will lead the team with hooker Derick Kuun among the replacements.

"The time is right for the youngsters to show what they've got and I am full of confidence that they will be able to utilise this opportunity," Ludeke said. "There are a number of these youngsters in the camp and they are pressing for places in the starting XV.

"I believe now is the perfect occasion to give them a chance."

The Bulls squad: Zane Kirchner, Akona Ndungane, Stephan Dippenaar, Jaco Pretorius, Gerhard van den Heever; Burton Francis, Francois Hougaard, Dewald Potgieter (captain), Pedrie Wannenburg, Deon Stegmann, Fudge Mabeta, Frik Kirsten, Bandise Maku and Greyling.
