THE killing of a councillor's husband who was found dead in his two-roomed house at the weekend is suspected to be the work of robbers.
Manale Coloured Motebejane, 49, was allegedly stabbed with a sharp instrument and also struck with bricks.
The incident happened at Mamaolo village near Lebowakgomo on Saturday night.
Motebejane was the estranged husband of ward 20 councillor in the Lepelle-Nkumpi Municipality, Patricia Mphahlele.
The couple had been separated for several months.
Inspector Manong Tshehla said yesterday four men aged between 19 and 28 had been arrested in connection with the murder .
"We have charged the suspects with murder and they will appear in the Thabamoopo magistrate's court today," Tshehla said.
He said police were investigating the motive for the killing and also trying to determine if anything had been stolen from the deceased, who stayed alone.
Tshehla said Motebejane was found half-naked in a pool of blood.
He had a wound on his hand, which looked as if he was stabbed with a sharp instrument.
Bricks were also found next to the body, which might have been used to batter Motebejane to death.
He said the men had apparently forced their way into the man's house.
"We hope our investigations will reveal the motive for the killing," Tshehla said.
He appealed to residents to provide police with information that might assist in the investigations.
