A 64-YEAR-OLD man was arrested in Marble Hall in Limpopo after he was allegedly found in possession of poisonous substances he used to drug people and later rob them.

The arrest follows a tip-off from members of the public.

The man is said to be from Hammanskraal near Pretoria.

Limpopo police spokesperson Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said that on Saturday the man was found in possession of Coca-Cola cans in which small holes had been made.

He said another person believed to be working with him had fled.

Police are still looking for him.

Ramatseba said preliminary investigations indicated the man would buy the drinks, open a small hole in the bottom, pour a quantity of the substance into the cans and then reseal them.

He would offer the drinks to unsuspecting victims and later rob them.

Ramatseba said they had also discovered that the suspects would enter banks to find victims to follow out of the bank.

Once outside they would pose as police officers looking for stolen money, he said.

They would then take money from victims, claiming they were going to compare it to the stolen money before disappearing.

He said the man would appear in the Marble Hall magistrate's court today on charges of possession of poisonous substances.

"We have forwarded the drinks to a forensic laboratory for tests to determine the type of drugs."
