THE unions are happy with the concessions made by SABC management "though some substantive issues still have to be ironed out".

The unions have agreed, in principle, to the offer put on the table by the SABC management.

Media Workers Association of SA's Themba Gasa said: "Both unions are happy with the agreement. We have been able to clinch the 10percent and R2000 once-off offer."

The SABC's Kaizer Kganyago, pictured , said: "The parties will engage the services of an independent mediator to determine whether there was an agreement between the SABC and organised labour in relation to outstanding substantive issues."

According to the agreement, a once-off amount of R2 000 is to be paid to Mwasa and Communication Workers Union members at the end of May 2010, subject to the organisation realising an operation profit of R21million at the end of the 2009-10 financial year.
