GREAT North Transport (GNT) came to the rescue of the Polokwane Local Football Association (Polfa) to whom they donated soccer equipment worth R20000.

The handover ceremony was held in Polokwane yesterday.

GNT's chief finance officer Nkhangweni Netshisaulu said the donation was part of the company's policy of ploughing back into the community in thanks for their support.

"We agreed to sponsor this incredible association to continue to dream and commit themselves to reach their goals in soccer. We believe that sports improves health, instils commitment and responsibility in our society. A soccer player in the field is committed and accountable to another player, a team, club supporters and the society," said Netshisaulu yesterday.

"Our mission and vision is to strengthen relationships with our customers and strategic partners and instil the culture of learning and prosperity. This initiative can only be achieved by supporting youth in their most likely sport, which is soccer."

The donation that will be distributed to 40 clubs includes balls, squeeze bottles, whistles and medical kit.

Accepting the donation, Polfa's chairperson, Abel "The Lip" Rakoma, applauded GNT for their goodwill.

"Our promise and commitment to GNT is that the donations will be used fruitfully for the designated recipients," Rakoma told Sowetan.

"We are also calling on other businesspeople to lend a helping financial hand to ensure that football is fully developed in the province."
