Deposit refunded after we step in

WILSON Maphanga has thanked Consumer Line after Jubilee Motors gave him a refund.

WILSON Maphanga has thanked Consumer Line after Jubilee Motors gave him a refund.

Maphanga, of KwaZulu-Natal, wanted to buy a minibusi from the the motor dealership in June. It cost R170000. A sales consultant told him to pay a deposit of R10000.

He was told the vehicle would be ready for delivery in July, but a week after paying the deposit the salesman, Aaron Khoza, wanted R25000 more. Maphanga said he could not raise the money.

"I decided to cancel the sale and asked for my money back. Khoza agreed to deposit it into my account a day later. But a day turned into a week and a week into a month and my money was not deposited into my account."

When Maphanga was turned away at Jubilee Motors' reception he came to Consumer Line. Just a few hours later, his misery turned to joy.

When we called Jubilee Motors Khoza denied demanding R25000 more. He said Maphanga wanted another vehicle, which required a bigger deposit. Then he said he had not heard from Maphanga and had no idea he wanted his money back.

Khoza told Consumer Line: "Write whatever you like, I have no business talking to you," before he slammed down the phone.

We called back and spoke to the owner, Stanley Searra. He said he was not aware of the problem and apologised for any inconvenience his company might have caused Maphanga.

"Maphanga should have come to me. This would have been sorted out a long time ago," Searra said.
