KwaZulu-Natal fans might have hoped that the emerging AmaZulu would avoid their homeboys Lamontville Golden Arrows in the semifinals to set up a potential all-KZN final - but the neighbours were drawn together.
The semifinal draw was conducted in Roodepoort yesterday, with Kaizer Chiefs taking on Ajax Cape Town in the other semi.
The matches will be played over two legs. The first leg of the Chiefs-Ajax match-up takes place at Newlands Stadium at 8.15pm on Saturday. The Arrows-AmaZulu match is set for Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday at 3pm.
The second leg matches take place on the weekend of August 22. The away-goal rule will apply.
AmaZulu last won a trophy in 1992 when they beat Chiefs 3-1 in the Coca-Cola Cup final.
But their defeat of pre-tournament favourites SuperSport United in the quarterfinals last week sparked hopes of a revival at the club. Abafana Bes'thende are an equally strong side though.
Ajax spokesperson Thabiso Mekuto joked that his team or Arrows should win the tournament because both clubs are sponsored by the cellphone giant.
Chiefs communications manager Thebe Mohatle said: "We appreciate the opportunity to play against Ajax who we also respect. But we want to win it for our fans before we turn 40 next year."
Midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala expects a tightly contested match.
Arrows defender Joseph Musonda said it was not going to be easy to beat AmaZulu after losing Kagisho Dikgacoi.
