MAPUTO - Mozambique's first oil refinery in 24 years will be moved because it is sensitive to the environment, Leonardo Simao, founder of Oilmoz Lda which will own the R64,4billion project, said yesterday.

"We were advised that because of the proximity of the site to the Maputo elephant reserve and because of the sensitivity of the biodiversity of the area it was not possible to continue to set up the refinery in that area," said Simao, a former foreign affairs minister of the country.

"We decided to find another area that is not sensitive to the environment." - Sapa
