ANCYL must stop pulling race card

THE ANC Youth League's concern about "minorities" holding strategic economic positions in the government is interesting.

It's a fact that certain races occupy certain economic positions, but it's worth noting that all those appointments were made by the government that they fought to install. They claimed that the previous administration did not consult widely enough and the new administration would be more open and tolerant to different views and opinions.

I would like to believe that the Jacob Zuma administration is indeed more open to different views. It would seem that after all the facts where considered, the best candidates were appointed, irrespective of creed, religion and or race.

I would like to believe that the youth league, as an important role player, was consulted . So it's unfortunate that they come after the fact, to complain about the race of the individuals. It's interesting that the government dictates to the markets who to appoint , but when they appoint people, they appoint the best person available.

The new administration has realised that populism and emotions do not run governments, but competency does. The fact that the ruling party can not find competent people of colour to run their economic portfolios is a bad indictment on themselves. Maybe if they do away with cadre deployment, they could look wider for the right candidates to meet their youth league's expectations. Pulling the race card is a futile exercise.
