Murder suspect blames police and newspaper

A MURDER suspect has blamed a newspaper and the police for putting him in the dock.

A MURDER suspect has blamed a newspaper and the police for putting him in the dock.

Joe Sithole, 23, allegedly kidnapped two women and gunned down a close friend in an argument over a stolen car in Johannesburg two years ago.

He then allegedly went back to his home in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal, where he allegedly found a job with the Daily Sun newspaper, the same publication that published his picture as a wanted criminal. It was then that his colleagues recognised him and alerted the police.

Now Sithole claims that had the newspaper not published his photo, he would not have been pointed out by one of the women he allegedly kidnapped as the culprit during an ID parade.

He also claims that he admitted committing the crime because he was tortured and pointed out where it happened because a policeman had asked him not to "disappoint" him.

Sithole's counsel advocate Mthokozisi Sithole called him to the witness stand yesterday where he denied shooting Solly Nkuna and kidnapping his girlfriend, Agnes Mokoena, a friend, Papi Masisi, and neighbour Deliwe Ngcaku.
