SURVIVAL of the fittest will be the name of the game when five Mpumalanga high schools battle for two places in the national championships of the inaugural SA Schools Football Association (Sasfa) Metropolitan Schools League.

Ka Maqhekeza Stadium in Komatipoort will be the battlefield on Saturday.

The national championships will be hosted in the city of Matlosana, Klerksdorp, from September 29 until October 3.

Zakes Malaza High School, mentored by Safa-accredited coach Elvis Gumede, will enter the race as firm favourites judging by their previous achievements. Other schools with the potential to cause upsets are Thuto Thebe, Thokomala and Masitakhe. The fifth school from Bushbuckridge district was being decided yesterday.

"We would like to remind all the schools that the name of the game is still fair play and as such, we have deployed Mike 'Prosecutor' Tlhaka to ensure that rules are upheld and there is no cheating," Sasfa president Mandla Mazibuko said yesterday.
