Media, DA so sour over Cele

MANY in the media have responded with their usual disapproval of comrade Bheki Cele's appointment as national police commissioner.

MANY in the media have responded with their usual disapproval of comrade Bheki Cele's appointment as national police commissioner.

But the media is not telling us what Cele lacks to be commissioner. They have always called on our government to deal with crime so I find it deceitful of them and their handlers, the DA and Cope, to now say the government should not appoint whom it believes will deal with crime decisively.

During all the elections in our democracy the opposition made crime one of their political aces against the government, but now that the government provides leadership they accuse the government of playing the political appointments game.

Do they expect President Jacob Zuma to appoint Desmond Tutu as our crime-buster? No, that won't work.

The DA and Cope have said that the president appoints people based on party allegiance. But this is because the ANC is the ruling party, having won the elections, and was given a mandate to do so by the voters.

It is very cheap and low and above all ridiculous for the DA to compareCele to Jackie Selebi.

Cele has shown through his leadership as transport, community safety and liaison MEC in KwaZulu-Natal that he can do the job.

Criminals must know that the honeymoon is now over. South Africans must provide the necessary support to the national commissioner. We should all say as we said many years ago: One murderer, one bullet.
