IN CELEBRATING Women's Day a photographic exhibition that showcases the talent of young photographers opens at the MuseumAfrica, Newtown.
The exhibition, Face Her, opens on August 11 and looks at women's lives and issues of gender in society.
The images that will be on display reflect on the lives, dreams and aspirations of these photographers as the new observers, producers and commentators.
It looks at the ways in which people portray others and reflects on the ways they choose to portray themselves. It celebrates women's achievements and their overcoming the challenges facing them.
The Market Photo Workshop will also present a public screening of selected photographic works in celebration of Women's Day on Sunday in the courtyard of No 1 Central Place, Newtown.
These works are all drawn from previous group exhibitions, curated by the Market Photo Workshop, and were exhibited as part of previous Newtown Women in Arts Festivals.
Included in the screening are works from celebrated photographers such as Nonsikelelo Veleko, Zanele Muholi, Sabelo Mlangeni, Tracy Edser and Musa Nxumalo.
Each exhibition, approached conceptually, contains work focused on issues around gender roles and women and the social environments they occupy.
That will not be all. The Fast Art Girls, an exchange art project between local and international artists, is back. It will take place on Sunday night outside Cappellos, Newtown.
Other activities that will be taking place as part of the celebration includes dance, theatre, film, literature and poetry.
