A STATEMENT to the police by a self-confessed heroin addict accused of strangling two men and their cat can be used as evidence, the North Gauteng high court in Pretoria ruled yesterday.

A STATEMENT to the police by a self-confessed heroin addict accused of strangling two men and their cat can be used as evidence, the North Gauteng high court in Pretoria ruled yesterday.

Judge Lettie Malopa found that a pointing-out for police by Juan-Pierre Jacobs, 27, was also admissible as evidence.

Jacobs has admitted to being at the Pretoria North home of Steven Dummer, 44, and his friend Theo Holtzhausen, 24, when they and their cat were strangled in June 2006.

But he has denied any part in the murders.

Jacobs has accused his friend, sex worker Lafras de Jager.

He claims he helped De Jager carry goods to a car because he was afraid of him.

In February last year De Jager was sentenced to 60 years in jail after confessing to his role in the murders.

The trial continues. - Sapa
