Even after the former Dynamos right-back had apologised for his action, the Cosmos owner-coach said: "I want to set an example and discipline that boy."

Mmbooi initially signed a two-season contract with Cosmos after team manager Andrew "The Jaws" Rabutla drove more than 300km to Polokwane two months ago to secure the player's services.

Cosmos unveiled him as one of their new recruits a few days later.

But a short while afterwards Mmbooi denied he had willingly signed for Cosmos, claiming that he had been forced to sign.

He could not explain how he had been coerced to sign by Rabutla but maintains that he is a Chiefs player.

A fuming Sono confirmed yesterday that Mmbooi phoned him at the weekend to apologise for dumping Cosmos.

This was a second apology after the highly promising player also expressed regret in the media.

But yesterday Sono would have none of it.

"We no longer want the player," he told Sowetan.

"Yes, he apologised to me and I accepted his apology.

"We do not want the player back, but we still have a case against him in the Premier Soccer League's dispute resolution chamber.

"We want to enforce a principle here. We are still waiting for his written apology and we will take it from there.

"We know that Kaizer Chiefs are not at fault because they signed the player like we did."

Mmbooi did not want to talk to Sowetan yesterday, instead referring us to Chiefs team manager Bobby Motaung, who could not be reached.

Mmbooi's case issimilar to that of Siphelele Mthembu this time last season, which also involved Chiefs.

Chiefs thought they had signed the player from Maritzburg City but it later turned out that Mthembu rightfully belonged to Orlando Pirates.

He duly boarded the Buccaneers ship, where he has since remained.
