Ajax happy with Sibisi

THERE was much expectation from Diyo Sibisi when he joined Mamelodi Sundowns last season, but the forward failed to shine at Chloorkop.

THERE was much expectation from Diyo Sibisi when he joined Mamelodi Sundowns last season, but the forward failed to shine at Chloorkop.

Now Sibisi is an Urban Warrior and his new team mate Brett Evans is thrilled by his arrival at Ikamva, Ajax's headquarters.

Evans, who with Franklin Cale recently signed three-season extensions to their contracts, strongly believes Sibisi will perfectly plug the gap left by petulant striker Mabhuti Khenyeza.

Khenyeza, who helped Ajax lift the Telkom Knockout last season, joined Sundowns last week, much to the excitement of Masandawana.

Sibisi, who moved to Chloorkop after a successful spell at Free State Stars, played in Ajax's 1-4 defeat by Absa Premiership upstarts Mpumalanga Black Aces in the Old Mutual Mangaung Cup yesterday.

Said Evans yesterday: "Diyo showed a lot of aggression up front against Aces. I think he is the right player to replace Mabhuti. It was sad to lose a player of Mabhuti's stature, but we need to move on. It is encouraging to see players like Diyo joining us."

The Ajax's skipper also believes that coach Muhsin Ertugral is well-placed to help them challenge for honours next season.

Other players released by Ajax include Mkhanyiseli Siwahla, Martin Carelse and Thomrick October.
