Go Blade Runner!

South AFRICAN Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee president Gideon Sam has commended double amputee Oscar Pistorius for his brave effort in attempting to qualify for the World Athletics Championships.

South AFRICAN Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee president Gideon Sam has commended double amputee Oscar Pistorius for his brave effort in attempting to qualify for the World Athletics Championships.

This was after Pistorius missed the qualifying standard in Italy at the weekend when he finished fourth in the 400m event with a time of 47,42 seconds.

"Oscar is still only 22 and there will be other opportunities for him. Given the injury setback of earlier this year it was always going to be an uphill task for him to qualify for Berlin, but the manner in which he committed himself to the task is an inspiration," Sam said.
