Funny business in Tshwane again

TSHWANE people are in for a comedy treat.

TSHWANE people are in for a comedy treat.

The third annual Tshwane Comedy Festival runs from tomorrow until August 1 at the South African State Theatre.

The festival features seasoned comedians and newcomers, including Pure Monate Show luminaries, Kagiso Lediga, Tshepo Mogale, Joey Rasdien, Chris Forrest, Riaad Moosa and Roni Modimola.

Modimola has performed at the festival since its inception.

"Mel Miller, John Vlismas and Magic Man are old hands in the industry," says Modimola.

"Then you get the new guys such as Thomas Gumede, Dale Emler and the winner of So You Think You're Funny, Sifiso Nene. It's a pretty balanced line-up.

Fans of the Pure Monate Show might see Modimola reprise his popular Sidepocket character from the show.

"Chances are I might do Sidepocket again. If I get there and it's mainly a black crowd, I will rock Sidepocket. Other than that, audiences can expect my usual dry sense of humour, satire and perhaps right down to the farcical".

Expect clever and thought-provoking comedy.
