SABC crisis not hurting promoters

THE SABC's widely reported financial woes have not affected boxing promoters who work exclusively with the cash-strapped public broadcaster, the promoters told Sowetan yesterday.

THE SABC's widely reported financial woes have not affected boxing promoters who work exclusively with the cash-strapped public broadcaster, the promoters told Sowetan yesterday.

Branco Milenkovic of Branco Sports Promotions , Reggie Hilman of Future Boxing Promotions and S'Phatho Handi of Mamali Boxing Promotions deal only with the national broadcaster .

"We don't have problems. After all, promoters don't get paid immediately after tournaments," said Milenkovic. "It sometimes takes 30 to 50 days to be paid. Our promotion does not have complaints. I think the promoters that work with me are okay."

Hilman, who has presented two tournaments that were televised on Blow by Blow this year, echoed Milenkovic's sentiments, as did Handi.

Meanwhile, Handi's company will stage the grudge fight between Manelisi "Hitman" Mbilase and Thando "Slugger" Vukuza for the SA featherweight belt at East London's Orient Theatre next Friday night (July 24).
