GAUTENG police are searching for the parents of a girl who was kidnapped six years ago.
Inspector Kay Makhubele said Simamane Phumlane, 14, was kidnapped from the Isipingo Flats in Durban. A man had approached her and offered to buy her an ice-cream.
"He took her and put her onto a train, from there they went to a strange place from where he brought her and two other children to Johannesburg," he said.
The man was arrested in Johannesburg in 2004 and was sentenced in 2005. He later died in jail.
The children were placed in foster care in Diepkloof, Soweto. "Now this child is 14 and doesn't know her parents," he said.
Makhubele said it seemed the child had not been reported missing when the incident occurred six years ago.
The girl's last name may have been changed by her kidnapper.
Police urged anyone with information on the child's parents to contact the investigating officer Inspector Mchunu on 082-215-6468. - Sapa
