'Don't fall for warders'

MINISTER of Correctional Services Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has warned female prisoners against having sex with warders.

"Don't fall in love with prison warders and please don't do them any sexual favours.

"Actually it is the worst humiliation for you as a woman to do warders sexual favours," she told women prisoners at Westville Prison in Durban yesterday.

Mapisa-Nqakula visited the prison as part of a fact-finding mission in which she also met officials to discuss whatever problems they might have.

Westville is one of the country's most crowded prisons.

The minister advised inmates to behave themselves so they would become eligible for parole.

Mapisa-Nqakula said the main reason for visiting the women was to see how their children were living in the prison.

Most of the inmates who spoke to her pleaded for parole, saying they had learnt their lesson in jail.
