The Mokgophong municipality in Naboomspruit never ceases to amaze.

Instead of offering a better cellphone allowance to its spin doctor, the municipality has offered higher cellphone packages to personal assistants of the mayor and the municipal manager.

A document in Sowetan's possession clearly stipulates that the personal assistants are receiving allowances of R400 each a month.

But Lesiba Seshoka, the suspended municipal spokesperson, only receives a cellphone allowance of R315 a month.

Department of local government and housing spokesperson Clayson Monyela said it was a breach of policy for personal assistants to get higher allowances .
