LUSAKA - The news editor of Post newspaper was arrested here yesterday on charges of possessing pornography over an unpublished photo of a woman giving birth.

Chansa Kabwela was interrogated by the police for more than one hour over the photo that never appeared in the paper but which the woman gave to Zambian women's groups.

"She has been charged and arrested for circulating obscene material,"Post lawyer Sam Mujuda told AFP. "We are working to get her released."

The picture shows a woman giving birth without medical attention during a national doctors' strike last month.

The family brought the picture to the paper and Kabwela passed it on to local women's groups and the office of the vice president. President Rupiah Banda was angered by the image and ordered police to arrest her. - Sapa-AFP
