A LIMPOPO man accused of raping a teenage girl at Thohoyandou has been remanded in custody.
Elvis Madia, 29, who had his tongue bitten off, allegedly raped a 14-year-old teenager after he promised to show her his brother's whereabouts.
Madia was arrested on Thursday after the victim ran to the police to report the incident.
The teenager told the police that she was raped by a man who deceived her and told her that her brother went to the University of Venda.
Police said Madia found the teenager at a restaurant where her brother was supposed to come and pick her up after shopping.
It is alleged that the accused approached the teenager and told her that he would help her look for her brother.
The suspect threatened the girl with a knife before raping her in the bush on their way to the university.
But the victim bit off the suspect's tongue when he tried to kiss her while raping her.
Captain Mashudu Malelo said the suspect was arrested while he was faking a story that he escaped a ritual murder attack in the bush while he was with his girlfriend.
He said the teenager immediately fingered him as the man who raped her.
Police said Madia was arrested and taken to Tshilidzini hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
Madia, who was unable to speak, had his case postponed to August 20 for further investigations and to allow him to recover so that he can stand trial.
Malelo could not confirm if they would institute additional charges against Madia.
