ONE lucky fan will earn 38 VIP tickets to the 2010 Fifa World Cup, thanks to the sponsors of the MTN 8 Wafa Wafa tournament.
The improved second edition of a fan-based competition was announced at the draw of this year's tournament conducted in Roodepoort yesterday.
The format of the tournament has not changed as the winner takes home R8million while each team will receive R800000 for finishing in the top eight and for taking part in the event - bringing the total payout to a staggering R13600000.
The 38 games for the lucky fan comprise the opening game, 28 pool games, four round-of-16 matches, two quarterfinals, two semifinals, third and fourth place playoffs and the final.
The prize also includes all-expenses-paid trips over 31 days to the 38 live games.
MTN's chief marketing officer, Serame Taukobong, said an application had been sent to the publishers of Guinness World Records to enter the competition for the most matches attended by one individual at a Fifa World Cup.
Taukobong added: "The 'Last Fan Standing'competition will target the dyed-in-the-wool fans that tirelessly support their teams.
"Our employees will not be left out as we have introduced a competition for them where they stand to win merchandise and special access tickets to matches."
Back to the draw, defending champions Kaizer Chiefs were pitted against Bidvest Wits at home, SuperSport United face AmaZulu away, Orlando Pirates square up against Ajax Cape Town at home while Free State Stars host Lamontville Golden Arrows. The quarterfinals will be played on the weekend of August 4 and 5, the semifinals' first leg on August 15 and 16 with the second leg on August 22 and 23. The final is pencilled in for September 26.
