Province rule the greens

THE Western Province men and the Eastern Gauteng women took the honours at Bowls SA's week-long under-25 and under-19 inter-district development tournaments played simultaneously in George.

WP A won the U-25 men's event, matched by their U-19 counterparts, while Eastern Gauteng's U-25 side won on shot difference from Central Gauteng's powerful side.

Brilliant is the only word that comes to mind to describe WP's men's U-25 and U-19 development sides' performances. The U-25 A side played superbly throughout, won their section, then destroyed a competent Gauteng North quartet 23-6, defying a 50kmh berg wind in the process.

The U-19 A team won gold for a third time in four starts, beating Boland 13-11 in their playoff.

The event, played on greens in George, at Outeniqua and at Groot Brak Rivier, was superbly organised by Southern Cape's Koos Louw and an excellent committee.
