MAGDELENE Molotsi of Soweto is one of the victims of secret divorces.

The 57-year-old has been married since 1993 to Bishop Abbey Molotsi, 68, who founded the God Spirit Church.

She learnt of the divorce from members of their church last year.

"I went to check my status at the family court. I became dizzy when the lady confirmed that my husband had divorced me," she said.

"On the file a certain sheriff called Maluleke noted that he served a summons on me. It seems this Maluleke was in cahoots with my husband because the sheriff's office says they don't work on Sundays."

Sowetan visited the bishop yesterday and found him preaching to a women-only congregation. The man of the cloth, who has divorced five times, insisted his estranged wife was notified of the court date.

"I divorced her because she is a thief. She took our property to her daughter's house."

He was adamant his estranged wife is not entitled to the joint property. "This property belongs to me and my previous wife," he said.
