Car crash victims buried

THE Ndwedwe area, north of Durban, came to a standstill this weekend as the community bade farewell to three pupils who died in a car crash blamed on drunk driving.

THE Ndwedwe area, north of Durban, came to a standstill this weekend as the community bade farewell to three pupils who died in a car crash blamed on drunk driving.

Mzwandile Ngcobo, 15, Mzwandile Shange, 18, and Thando Mngadi, 20, died last week when the bakkie they were travelling in overturned.

The overloaded bakkie was transporting 14 youths from a birthday party to Verulam.

The driver is believed to have been drunk and to have taken Ngcobo family's car without permission.

Social Development MEC Meshack Radebe used the funeral to highlight his department's campaign against substance abuse.

"We need clean youth who say no to drugs and focus on building their future," Radebe said.

Mandla Shange said the family had been shocked by the accident.

He urged children to stay away from liquor.
