MOROKA Swallows's hunt for a new coach is over.
The Beautiful Birds have lured an unnamed German coach to their aviary.
The new mentor replaces Julio Leal who guided Swallows to Nedbank Cup glory last season.
Leal, however, failed to qualify the club for the MTN8 Cup and this did not go down well with most of the club's supporters and management.
They finished 11th on the log, a disappointing finish by Swallows standards.
The new coach was head-hunted by Swallows boss Leon Prins in Germany. Prins sounded confident of getting Leal's replacement when he spoke to Sowetan from Holland last week and indications were that he would find a coach there.
The coach is expected in the country tomorrow and he has been described by sources close to Swallows as a good tactician.
"I don't have any doubt in my mind that Swallows will fly high with pride next season under this man," said a source, who spoke yesterday on condition of anonymity.
"Leon Prins was very careful in his search for a coach and he did not rush to signing one for the sake of it.
"Swallows are a big team and they want to win trophies. Though they managed to win the cup last season, it was very disappointing to miss out on the top eight."
But Swallows administrator Sipho "Sika Bopha" Xulu yesterday pleaded ignorance about the new coach.
"Prins returned on Saturday and he has not briefed us about the developments regarding the new coach. We will call a press conference if there is a new coach," Xulu said.
The Swallows boss could not be reached for comment at print time yesterday.
Swallows have brought in veteran mentor Eddie Lewis as a technical adviser and the new mentor will be assisted by Jose "Zeca" Marques.
Daniel "Vader" Mphosho, who was also Leal's assistant, is unlikely to continue with his position because of ill health.
The new coach will also have ample time to assess the likes of Lungisani Ndlela, Collins Mbesuma and July Mahlangu who are training with Swallows hoping to be signed.
There are also three unnamed Nigerians who are trying their luck at the Birds nest.
