A TEENAGE mother has been arrested for the murder of her nine-month-old baby boy.
Though police said they could not confirm this, the 18-year-old teenager is said to be pregnant again.
The girl is believed to have strangled the baby on Tuesday, wrapped it in blankets and put the body inside a plastic bag and dumped it in a veld in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni.
Police spokesperson Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said: "Women in Meriting Section noticed that she no longer had the baby and confronted her.
"When they asked her where her son was, she told them that she had left him in the veld on Tuesday.
"The girl took the women to the veld and showed them where the baby's body was."
Ralidzhivha said the teenager told them that she was from Pretoria.
"She said the boy was alive when she left him in the veld.
"That cannot be true because people use the same way when they go to different places.
"They would have heard the baby's cries. It shows that she murdered the baby elsewhere and dumped the body there," he said.
Ralidzhivha said police were investigating a case of murder and that the girl would appear in court soon.
Meanwhile, police in the area are still investigating a concealment of birth case after they found a foetus in a bucket.
"This is more than horrible. Women who feel that they will not be able to take care of their children should take them to places of safety rather than kill them.
"There are many people who want to have children and would give unwanted babies love and care," Ralidzhivha said.
