PSL giants pledge R200 000

TSHWANE sides Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United have pledged to help the Mopani district municipality raise R200 000 for charity in the four-team Mayor's Cup.

Officials of the two teams made this promise at the launch of this year's event in NkowaNkowa, near Tzaneen, this week.

The one-day yearly tournament will also feature National First Division side Dynamos and newly promoted Vodacom League side Dundee United. It will be played at NkowaNkowa Stadium on July 19.

Last year the tournament raised R125 000, which was shared by five charity organisations.

Defending champions SuperSport United spokesperson David Skosana, said: "It's good for the charities and also for the community who will obviously get an opportunity to watch some of the top clubs in the country.

"The tournament will also be part of the 2010 World Cup awareness campaign in the area."

Sundowns co-ordination manager Daniel Mudau said: "We will call our supporters around the country to come to fill the stadium. That is the only way we can plough back into the communities."

Mopani mayor Joshua Matlou pleaded with the people of Limpopo to support the tournament.

Sundowns will play Dundee United at 10am, while SuperSport face Dynamos at noon. The final will be played at 4pm.

The winning team will take home R100 000, the runners-up R50 000 and the other two teams will receive R30 000 each.
