TWO Cape Town policemen have been arrested by the country's new crime fighting team - the Hawks - on charges of kidnapping, extortion and corruption.

Inspector André Traut said a 50-year-old inspector was arrested yesterday while a 45-year-old inspector was arrested on Wednesday night.

Both were based at the Kuilsrivier police station.

"The men duped a man who was selling his car. They posed as potential buyers and then allegedly planted fake diamonds in the car.

When the seller left in his vehicle, the policemen followed him and asked him to pay money to avoid prosecution," said Traut. - Sapa
