From 2006 to date, 388 officials have lost their jobs. This is an indication that we are no longer prepared to tolerate corruption as a country.
It is of serious concern, however, that no indication is given as to the number of officials who have been dealt with through the criminal justice system or who were ordered to reimburse the department for any losses incurred.
Those officials must be exposed and be dealt with as criminals because that is what they are. Our people deserve to see that happening.
The Criminal Law Sexual Offences and Related Matters Amendment Act provides for a register of sexual offenders.
Regarding those officials who have been shown the door by Home Affairs, particularly for graft-related offences, my advice is that we seek an amendment to the act where we make a provision that gives life to a criminal register for all those who have either been criminally convicted or fired through the internal processes within the Home Affairs department.
Through this, we will be able to ensure that it does not become easy for them to secure employment in any government department where they can easily access taxpayers' money.
Private sector companies that intend employing such persons must have free access to the register in order to confirm the background of such applicants.
