"The three men were dressed in civilian clothes and drove in a marked police bakkie," said Superintendent Abie Khoabane.
The driver of an Isuzu truck was stopped by the "police" on the Volksrust road at 6pm on Tuesday. He was held up at gunpoint and blindfolded before the trio left him on the side of the road unhurt.
