This was the case with children from the FLOC (For the Love of Children) Day Care Centre, who spend most of their time indoors in the basement of the Central Methodist Church in Johannesburg.
With the help of Mama Angel and the St Stithians College in Randburg the children had an opportunity to play with pupils in a beautiful garden outside.
This will create new experiences and memories that they will treasure for a long time. They were also treated to cupcakes, juice, hot dogs and they each took home a party pack.
The FLOC aims to be a place of refuge for the less privileged families of South Africa and refugees from distressed parts of the continent. Particularly in the case of children, tiny victims caught in the crossfire, the FLOC feels obliged to present them with an appearance of normality in their lives.
Children from disadvantaged backgrounds are at exceptional risk to factors brought on by financial insecurity. They might lack regular meals and opportunities for intellectual stimulation.
Neither financial situations nor national issues that cause people to be displaced should deprive young ones of a quality early childhood education.
In its 20 years of its existence the FLOC has provided hundreds of children with enriching pre-school education, allowing them to blossom and begin to discover their own abilities.
With enrolment from the age of three months to six years, the FLOC offers a stimulating, safe and caring environment to children from all walks of life. Children are guaranteed warmth, clothing, food and medical assistance.
"All of us at the FLOC would like to thank you for your generosity. It was such a wonderful day to be out on the playgrounds rather than our usual everyday basement in the church," FLOC director Sibongile Ncube said.
"We will never forget you. I guess you could see from the kids' smiles how happy they were to be with you and the girls."
