This was said yesterday by the forthright chairman of Gauteng Promoters' Association, Mxolisi Gumede.
He spoke in his capacity as a member of the boxing fraternity.
The board comprises Peter Ngatane (chairman), Archie Jonas, Sakhiwo Sodo and Claude Bassuday. The other two members, Mxolisi Tsika and Vhulani Baloyi (female) resigned.
Sodo initially supported Tsika and Baloyi, who cited irreconcilable differences with Ngatane but within a month Sodo was back.
Bongani Khumalo, who took office as CEO in June 2007, resigned in May. He complained about the same board. Loyiso Mtya, who had been director of operations, is at the helm in an acting capacity.
Some staff members at Nasrec have been accused of being matchmakers, agents and managing fighters, while others are alleged to have allowed themselves to be corrupted. Khumalo made this clear after his resignation, Gumede said.
"They must be subjected to an investigation. The board must also go through it as per an undertaking by the sports minister, Makhenkesi Stofile, who agreed to our proposal of the forensic investigation," Gumede said.
"You are talking about hard-earned cash here - money which belongs to the boxing fraternity. You expect people to manage it with care but there are accusations of fraud and corruption.
"Krish Naidoo was acquitted of the same charges by the same board of Boxing SA and it gave him a golden handshake of about R2million.
"It is thus proper for us as the boxing fraternity and the public to know who actually mismanaged the funds. The ruling of the tribunal found Naidoo not guilty. There are other pressing issues that also need to be investigated."
