FOUR people were killed yesterday morning near Louis Trichardt in an accident involving a petrol tanker and a car.

The accident happened at about 4am near the Hendrick Verwoerd twin tunnels, Limpopo police said.

Police spokesperson Captain Maano Sadiki said all four occupants of the Toyota Avanza died on the spot. The driver of the truck did not sustain any injuries.

Sadiki said the cause of the accident was still being investigated. He said they were investigating a case of culpable homicide. "It is true that all occupants of the small car died on the scene and we are still investigating the cause of the accident," said Sadiki.

He further said the road had to be closed for at least four hours to enable police to clear the accident scene. "As of now, I cannot say why and how the accident happened but can only say that ourinvestigations would determine that," he said.

The names of the dead will only be released once their next of kin had been notified.
