Spokesperson Fidel Hadebe said the most recent case was confirmed during the week - of a 27-year-old South African woman who had returned from travelling abroad in Europe.

She had made a full recovery and was back at work, Hadebe said.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases has reported a total of 11 cases - as of July 1.

"There is a total of 11 laboratory-confirmed cases of novel influenza (H1N1) in South Africa.

"There is no evidence to date of community transmission," the NCID institute said on its website.

Details of the patients, the dates of their infections and the origins of their infections were not immediately available. - Sapa
