Correctional Services said that “matters are under control” at Johannesburg’s Sun City Prison on Wed.
THE four-member board of Boxing SA has been given a thumbs down by the Democratic Alliance.
Donald Lee, DA spokesperson on sport and recreation, announced in a strongly worded statement on Wednesday that he had proposed in his budget vote speech that the department of sport and recreation act to dissolve Boxing SA's board.
"The DA will now introduce a Private Member's Bill to give legislative effect to this proposal," Lee said.
"Boxing SA is the only sports federation administered by the state. In this sense, not only does it run against existing precedent but, on principle, the DA believes it is not the government's business to be managing professional sport.
"Boxing SA represents another example of the ANC's obsession with centralising power in South Africa."
Boxing SA chairperson Peter Ngatane blamed their woes on a lack of funding caused by the fact they did not have a sponsor.
"The allocation from government is not enough," he said.
