A DEAF teenager was nabbed with nine boxes of bullets packed in three suitcases with other suspected stolen goods.

Police could not get a statement or any personal details from the 19-year-old suspect as none of them could communicate in sign language.

"We have had to call the head office and ask for assistance of someone who can communicate in sign language. We asked him questions by writing them down but he only wrote back his age and that he is from Zondi," said police spokesperson William Masondo.

Masondo said two police officers were patrolling at Wychwood Park in Germiston, Ekurhuleni, when they noticed two men carrying three suitcases.

When the police approached, the men dropped the luggage and fled. Police gave chase and caught the teenager.

"We asked him to write down the name of his friend and where we could find him but he just stared at us," he said.

Inside the suitcases were boxes of bullets, computer accessories, a home theatre system, a microwave, bottles of alcohol and various other goods.

"We suspect that these goods were stolen during a housebreaking. We are hoping that someone will come and claim them," said Masondo.

The teenager has been charged with possession of suspected stolen goods.

He will appear in the Germiston magistrate's court soon.
