FREE State Stars's Zambian goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene is R100000 richer after winning the club's player of the season award.

The 24-year-old was among the players who won the awards at the club's season-ending function at the Bethlehem Town Hall last night.

Mweene, who played for Lusaka Celtic and Kitwe United in his home country before joining Stars, had a great 2009-2009 season with the Free Staters.

His stupendous saves helped his team to finish in a reputable fourth position on the log.

Mweene's brilliant form last season also won him the Absa Premiership goalkeeper of the season award at the recent PSL awards. He pocketed R50000 for that award.

The players' player of the season award, which carries R40000, went to midfielder Ruben Cloete.

Controversial attacker Sthembiso Ngcobo got R65000 for finishing the season as top scorer.

Defender Sibusiso Mdluli scooped the most disciplined player award and took home R20000, while James Matola was named the most consistent player and got R25000.

The rookie of the season award was shared by Thamane Motaung and Tebelo Mofokeng, who each received R20000.

The good spirit award was won by goalkeeper Walter Khumalo, who received R15000 for the accolade.

Supporters branch of the season awards went to the Bethlehem, QwaQwa and Sasolburg branches.

Stars boss Mike Mokoena congratulated all the winners and encouraged them to double their efforts next season.
