Vibey V-Mash joins Muvhango

FORMER Jam Alley presenter Vinolia Mashego is joining Muvhango to play one of the main roles in this SABC soapie, Sowetan has learnt.

FORMER Jam Alley presenter Vinolia Mashego is joining Muvhango to play one of the main roles in this SABC soapie, Sowetan has learnt.

Muvhango publicist Nonkululeko Ndlovu confirmed the news this week, saying Mashego was busy shooting for the role of Meme's (Tsholo Monedi) mother in the popular soapie, which is aired from Monday to Thursday.

But Muvhango fans, who are eager to see this once vibey presenter and actress on TV will have to exercise some patience because she will only start appearing in the TV soapie from February 16 next year.

"As it stands we are shooting in advance and it is the exteriors that are being shot in this block," Ndlovu said.

Mashego loomed large on the South African television landscape in the 1990s, acting in a number of TV shows including Generations, and notably, as a full-of-zest and presenter with an attitude on the youth show Jam Alley.

In fact, subsequent presenters of the show have over the years tried in vain to meet the standard of presentation set by Mashego.

It is especially as a presenter of Jam Alley that Mashego made a significant mark on the psyche of the youth as a talkative and energetic presenter whose on-screen antics and vivacious nature easily connected with youth throughout the country.

But over the last few years she has been conspicuous by her absence on local TV screens amid reports that she had hit hard times.

Early this year she made a partial comeback to showbiz as marketing manager for a new recording label.

Mashego could not speak to us yesterday since she was busy shooting, but Ndlovu, speaking on behalf of the actress, said: "She is actually very excited to be back on TV, especially since many TV fans have been wondering what had happened to her since she disappeared from the screen."
