Teen nabbed for burning his stepfather to death

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy was yesterday arrested for burning his 50-year-old stepfather to death in Soshanguve Extension 4, north of Pretoria.

The grade 11 pupil's name may not be published because he is a minor.

Police say he was arrested at his grandmother's house in Limpopo, where he had been in hiding for more than a week. The teenager allegedly set his stepfather alight in his car in the veld 6km from their home on June 20.

"The boy accused his stepfather of abusing him when his mother was not around," said Captain Solly Marindi.

"[The father] came home drunk that night and the boy dragged him into his car and drove to the nearby veld. He poured petrol over the car and set it alight."

Marindi said the mother did not know the boy was being abused.

"At present we only have the boy's word about the abuse. He asked for money from his mother so he could go to his grandmother's place in Limpopo," Marindi said.

The boy's mother was also arrested in connection with the murder and the two are expected to appear in the Soshanguve magistrate's court soon.

Meanwhile, police are still looking for a man who allegedly sprayed his cousin with a hail of bullets in Nelmapius, eastern Pretoria.

The alleged killer shot and killed Fabiano Daniels on Saturday night.

Police say Daniels, who shared a house with the alleged killer, was found lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen with five bullet wounds.

"The man allegedly conspired to kill his cousin with a friend at a tavern a few metres from the house," said Captain Jan Sepato.

"He shot him with a revolver before fleeing.

"The suspect is believed to be moving around in a bakkie with a group of friends selling fruits at shopping centres.
