Acting ANC provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala told the media in Durban yesterday: "The ANC finds it unacceptable that buses in the city have stopped operating and thousands of people will be deprived of their daily transport.

"This will cause disturbances to the education of our children and potentially cripple the economy.

We support Premier Zweli Mkhize's initiative to appoint a task team to resolve the matter."

"We hope the task team will work tirelessly in ensuring that this problem is resolved speedily," Zikalala said.

"We cannot allow a situation in which our people are left without transport for months."

Municipal buses were officially off the streets yesterday, leaving thousands s without reliable transport and making many late for work.
