BAFANA Bafana defender Bryce Moon said he was not drunk when he knocked down a woman who later died on Monday morning.
Moon failed to respond to Sowetan's several messages but told KickOff.com that he only drank two beers at a party.
Sowetan exclusively revealed yesterday that Moon, pictured, was driving from a party hosted by Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena after the Confederation Cup final between Brazil and the US on Sunday when the crash happened about 6am.
An eye-witness said Moon and his two passengers smelt of alcohol and appeared drunk.
The eye-witness further alleged that Moon lost control of his Mercedes Benz and went off the bend between Katherine Road and Grayston Drive in Sandton, hitting Mavis Ncube who was walking to work at 6:00am.
Moon claimed to Kick Off that he had left the party at 3am and drove to a friend's place in Sandhurst before the accident.
"I was driving on the curve of a road and I could not see the women. When I suddenly saw them I tried everything I could to avoid hitting them so I tried to drive to an opposite direction," he told KickOff.com.
"But the confusion was that they both ran in different directions. The lady I hit ran in my direction and unfortunately, I hit her.
"I did drink two beers at the party but I was not drunk. The accident was unfortunate because the two ladies ran in different directions and the direction I chose happened to be the one where the lady ran to."
Police spokesperson Eugene Oppermann said a case has been opened, but "nobody has been arrested or charged".
